Today I got a stand-alone bluetooth GPS receiver and Geoniche for my Treo 650. Geoniche is software specifically for geocaching. And geocaching is the "sport" of finding hidden caches of trinkets and logbooks using GPS coordinates and encrypted clues. It's actually a lot of fun. But, this new rig not only allows me to locate myself in space, but record my activities as I move around the planet. Or, as in the case on the right, around my block. I set Geoniche on record, pulled the GPS data off the Treo, opened it in Google Earth, and, bam, there's my route (twice around the block) layered on a satellite image of Hamilton. The figure eight at the top, right is where I walked into the empty lot and circled a light standard. In general, it's a touch off east/west, but it still rocks. Cool or creepy, not sure yet. But what amazing technology!
